We sometimes speak about the environment as though it exists somewhere outside of us.
The soil.
The water.
The air.
The forests.
The climate.
But
human beings are part of that same ecosystem.
When the natural world changes, we change with it.
That is why environmental health cannot be completely separated from human health.
In today's discussion, I reflect on something I believe we need to consider more seriously:
Are all forms of technological progress actually improving our lives?
Technology can bring extraordinary benefits.
But
progress also requires discernment.
Not every proposed solution is without consequences.
Not every intervention should be accepted simply because it is described as innovative.
And when those interventions involve the natural systems that sustain us, we should be willing to ask thoughtful questions about their long-term effects.
A healthy future requires more than innovation. It requires wisdom.
And perhaps one of the most important forms of wisdom is remembering that we are not separate from nature.
We are part of it.
